I had the pleasure of getting to visit Mac yesterday and taking a few photos of him and his wonderful family. He’s changed so much in his first week of life! Here are a few photos from yesterday’s shoot.
Casey called me at 8:37am on Tuesday morning to let me know her water broke. Way back in April, she sent an email with the title “YOU CAN SAY NO :)” asking if I would photograph the birth of her first child. I had never done this before, but as soon as I finished reading the email I knew I had and wanted to do it. It’s such an honor when clients become friends and you get to be a part of major milestones in their lives. I’ve photographed Casey and Jesse’s engagement, wedding and anniversaries, but this shoot definitely took things to a new level for me.
As soon as I got off the phone with Casey on Tuesday morning, I began to get nervous in a way like this was my child about to be born! 🙂 I knew from past experiences with my brother’s children that there can be quite a wait until the baby arrives. I stayed in contact with Casey and Jesse throughout the day and was ready to speed to the hospital at a moment’s notice.
A little after 8:00pm I got a text from Casey that said things were starting to move along faster and that it would be a good time to come. I grabbed my things and headed to the hospital. A little after I arrived, I went back to Casey and Jesse’s room and they were both in great spirits. After hanging out with them for a bit, I went back to the main waiting room to sit with their family. It was such a great time getting to see many of these folks for the first time since Casey and Jesse’s wedding.
Things quieted down on the baby front and progressed slowly through the night and into the next morning. Around 3:15am, Jesse came to get me because the time for little Mac’s birth was near. When we got back to the room the doctor and nurses were prepping Casey for Mac’s birth. Things happened quickly after that. In about 10 minutes and a dozen or so pushes later little Mac entered the world crying.
It’s really hard to explain in words the beauty of a new life entering the world. In that moment, the main thought in my mind was that there still is good in this world. I have no idea what little Mac will grow up to become, but that is what is so beautiful to me. The endless opportunities that he will have in his life due to the wonderful parents he has to raise him.
The medical staff did a wonderful job. Jesse was a rock throughout the process for his wife, and I can’t imagine a first time mother being more courageous and strong than Casey. It was such an honor to be part of this special day.
Thank you Casey and Jesse for trusting me with this responsibility. It is something I will treasure for the rest of my life.
Welcome to this wonderful world Macalister Edward Clark!
I had the BEST time photographing Olivia this afternoon. I’ve known her parents for several years (I photographed their engagement, wedding & maternity photos) and it’s been great seeing their family grow! Here are a few of my favorites from Olivia’s 1 year session! Happy birthday Olivia!!!
